It is imperative that all Muslims recite the majestic Qur’an with the requisite elocution. So much so, that it is actually obligatory (fard al ayn) - on all Muslims - to learn the Islamic science (Tajwid) of reciting the Qur’an.

The ‘Essentials of Qur'anic Recitation’ is an all-encompassing flagship course that aims to revive the traditional discipline of Qur’anic recital; starting with Tajwid, followed by Qira’at, and then Maqamat.

Perfect for all levels of students, this on-going programme is split into regular 10 week terms, allowing students to flourish, as they increase their love and attachment to the Luminous Qur’an.

Beginners will be taught the rules of Qur’anic recitation and the policies that govern it (i.e. Tajwid); intermediate learners will be taught the methods of recitation (i.e. Qira’at, tartil, etc.); and advanced students will pick-up the techniques and methods (i.e. Maqamat) of the great classical Qaris (expert Qur’an reciters).

Ijaza (classical authorisation/license to transmit) in Qur’anic recitation will also be presented at the behest of the teacher, as and when he deems students have reached the requisite level of learning and understanding through first-hand oral instruction.

Tajwid

The rules of Qur’anic recitation and the policies that govern it. I.e. How the Qur'an should be recited.

Qira'at

The methods of recitation. Did you know there are 10 recognised schools of Qira'at!

Maqamat

The techniques and methods of the great classical Qaris (expert Qur’an reciters).

Why is this course for you?

Fulfilling a Divine Command

Allah instructs us in Surah al-Baqarah (verse 121) to recite the Noble Qur'an in an appropriate manner: "Those to whom We have given the Book, recite it in the manner it should be read". This can only be achieved by studying the essentials of Qur'anic recitation.

Fulfilling the Rights of the Qur'an

One of the rights that the Qur'an has over us is that it must be read with measured recitation, where each letter is cleary distinguished, and where the recitor is familiar with the rules the govern Qur'anic recitation. Thus why Tajwid is classified as fard al-ayn (obligatory knowledge).

A Lofty Intercession

The Qur'an will either testify for you or against you on the Day of Judgement. Therefore, by reciting the Qur'an properly and honouring this science, insha'Allah, it will intercede on your behalf and be a means of salvation.

Great Blessings and Lofty Ranks

The majesty of the Qur'an is unparelled. In fact, loving, honouring, and reciting the Qur'an is the best of cures against all harm and evil. Furthermore, the best of people are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it to others (Bukhari); such is its ranks.
